Start for all
Information for customers with disabilities, to ensure correct access to the service and a safe journey for everyone on board.
Service access
This section collects key information for customers with disabilities, to guarantee proper access to the service and a safe journey for everyone on board.
Wheelchair access
Access to the service for people using mobility aids (wheelchairs) is only permitted on buses equipped with a ramp (electric or manual) or a lift, and only at enabled stops.
The number of wheelchairs allowed on board depends on the number of designated spaces specified in the vehicle registration document, which is kept on the bus and available for consultation.
On buses equipped for transporting wheelchairs, only mobility aids with maximum dimensions of 110 (h) × 70 × 109 cm are allowed on board.
If all available wheelchair spaces are already occupied, it will not be possible to allow access to additional passengers using mobility aids.
The driver is not required to manually assist the passenger with a disability during boarding and alighting. The driver is responsible for correctly positioning the boarding/alighting ramp (electric or manual, depending on the vehicle) and for checking that seatbelts, where provided, are worn properly.
Where available, the driver activates the command that enables the stop request button in the area reserved for passengers with reduced mobility. The passenger can then request the stop using the dedicated buttons in the reserved area.
It is also recommended that the driver asks the passenger, at the time of boarding, which stop they intend to get off at. If the chosen stop is not suitable for the use of the ramp, the driver will suggest an alternative, appropriate stop as close as possible.
The companion of a passenger with a disability who is not self-sufficient, with an officially recognised right to assistance and holding a valid travel document, is not required to pay for a ticket.

Accessible stops
On the routes listed, buses equipped with one wheelchair space are used, with a mobile ramp at the central door for access.
For operational reasons, buses with ramps may be used interchangeably with non-equipped vehicles: for this reason Start Romagna cannot guarantee the presence of ramp-equipped buses on every single trip.
The service operator, responsible for the efficiency of the on-board devices, cannot be held liable for any inconvenience caused by the temporary or permanent inadequacy of the bus stops in relation to the use of such devices.
List of suitable stops by area

Support for visually impaired customers
Start Romagna has introduced several solutions to make public transport more accessible for customers with visual impairments, both at stops and on board buses.
Since 2019, new-generation “smart poles” have been in use. In addition to displaying real-time bus arrival and departure information, they offer two main features:
- e-ink technology (similar to e-book displays), which allows operation with long-life batteries and no need for an electrical connection;
- an acoustic voice output for visually impaired passengers: a wireless button on the pole activates the voice reading of the information shown on the display.
You can download the updated list of stops equipped with voice output:
Since 2022, all new buses purchased by Start Romagna have been fitted with an on-board voice announcement system connected to the AVM (Automatic Vehicle Monitoring) system, which provides:
- internal voice announcements: speakers inside the vehicle announce the next stop in advance;
- external announcements: every time the doors open, an external speaker announces the bus line and destination.
As of September 2024, 173 vehicles are equipped with this system: 55 in the Rimini area, 66 in Cesena, 30 in Ravenna and 22 in Forlì.
The Moovit app, used together with the accessibility features of your smartphone (VoiceOver / TalkBack), offers step-by-step assistance:
- timetables, lines and route directions;
- maps, personalised alerts and notifications for your favourite lines;
- voice guidance when accessing the service and throughout the journey.
Inclusion Committee
The Inclusion Committee was established within Start Romagna in early 2023 as an intermediary body between the company and its employees.
The Committee was created to represent issues and shared needs and to open a constructive and direct dialogue on key topics for company life:
- gender equality;
- diversity, equity and inclusion;
- prevention of harassment and abuse;
- respect and protection of human rights.
Start Romagna is committed to extending this inclusion journey also to external stakeholders: schools, disability associations, institutions and organisations throughout the territory.
The Inclusion Committee helps to develop policies, projects and best practices aimed at building a public transport service that is increasingly accessible, inclusive and respectful of everyone’s needs.
